How do I use them? Looking in the Readme I see that
they were easy to make. I bought a couple, and set one up in the corner of
a room in Balcony House...then I couldn't find it to put armor on it. I
know *where* I left it, of course, but I can't interact with it. I tried
going invisible myself (well, come to think of it, I used chameleon), and
I tried "detect enchantment" and I tried to touch it hand to hand (and got
a report of Critical Damage! though not on what). I put the other one in
the closet until I find out how to use it!

Go into the Construction Set and add a pair of shoes to them - different colors for male and female perhaps. (Do not touch the ones prefaced by 'x' as these are the example mistforms in the shop.) Then you will have something to click on to open the dialogue box that allows you to add items. Edit: I have sent you a PM about this. Thanks, Ronin. Hmm...maybe that's what those shoes are by the door in the MQB... |

The problem is that you can unpack a Mistform
mannequin out of your inventory but you cannot activate it as there is
nothing to click on. You know they are there because they
become obstacles to movement. It is the source of one small frustration
with an otherwise truly outstanding mod. One answer is to equip all the mistform mannequins with an item of clothing, perhaps shoes, in the Construction Set. This is very easy but some detailed step-by-step instructions may be useful for novice mod users and those of us who are CS challenged. These excellent directions are reprinted here with the generous permission of the author. ************************************************************** HOM Mist Form Mannequins - MeghanAJH What I ended up doing was opening the mod in the construction set, clicking on the Mistform NPCs (since mannequins are NPC's really) and then adding a pair of shoes to each one. I put red shoes on the males and blue shoes on the females so I could tell them apart. IIRC, the mannequins that Grumblepunk made have names that start with _gp_ Also, there are special versions in the game that set up in the shop - these special mannequins have an X in the names (stands for example). After saving all that, when you load it up and buy a mistform mannequin, it will have shoes on its feet when you drop it. Your cursor will register the shoes and that will give you the dialog boxes to add things to their inventories or reposition them. ................................................................................................................ This is very straightforward and easy! Will it work on a game you've already started? Hmmm. I suspect that it will work on any new mannequins you buy but probably not on any you've already placed in the game world. [Edit: it works on both.] You might want to clean your save first but you probably won't need to. At anyrate, make yourself a back up save, just in case. Ok, so, Start up the CS and load the HoM and MW & Trib 1. You'll see a window labelled 'Objects' - click on the NPC tab 2. Scroll down until you spot the mannequins called _gp_mist 3. Remember, we're going to ignore the examples, which have X in their names 4. Right click on _gp_mist mannequin_m and choose edit (btw, 'info' on the rightclick menu lets you see where all the instances of something are in the gameworld. I just learned this) 5. Go ahead and do the same on _gp_mist mannequin_f while you're here. 6. Now, back in the 'Objects' window, click on the Clothing tab 7. In the clothing section, click on the Type column to group them by Type and find the shoes. 8. It doesn't matter what shoes you pick of course 9. (you can skip these next few steps, if you want) If you want to preview them, up at the very top click on the 'View Menu' and then select Preview window - The preview window will pop up over the big empty render window temporarily. 10. Now back in the clothing list click on the different shoes to see them in the preview window. 11. When you're done looking, click on the View Menu again and uncheck the preview window. 12. If your windows get hidden behind each other, just drag them around until you have the character sheets and the clothing list on top. 13. Ok now, locate the area on the character sheets where it says Items - it's empty for the moment. 14. In the clothing window, left click on the icon next to a pair of shoes and drag it over to the Items section of one of the character sheets. - The Item section should now show those shoes. 15. Click the Save button on that character sheet - don't touch anything else! 16. The sheet will disappear - that's ok. That's what it should do. 17. Click on a different pair of shoes and drag them to the Items section of the other character sheet, and then click save. 18. Click the Save button at the top of the editor. (Or you can use choose File -> Save from the menus, of course) That's it. As long as you don't touch anything else, you won't accidentally dirty up the mod. Normally, you need to be very very careful about using that save button but this is so fast and simple you'll be ok. If you do make a mistake, no big deal. Just recopy the HOM.esp into your datafiles folder and start over (don't try to fix it - it's a flaw in the editor. You have to start over, not try to back up.) If you're interested in the editor, the best tutorials for beginners are Dragonsong's. You can get them here: http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/tamriel/tutorials/dragonson%20tuts/ Dragonsong started dozens of us down the right path. ************************************************************** Hope this helps. -------------------- |
